What is VALUEMAXXING?
VALUEMAXXING arrives when TOKENMAXXING becomes too visibly expensive. Tokens, sessions and requests are replaced by value per token, return on AI spend, completed work or business outcome. It is partly a correction and partly another attempt to make an ambiguous human result legible to a dashboard.

Adherents believe
More usage is not more value.
The metric should follow the outcome.
AI adoption without impact is theatre.
Efficiency matters only in relation to a useful result.
A better metric can repair the incentive created by a worse one.
You may already be VALUEMAXXING if…
- you ask what an AI workflow produced rather than how often it ran
- your reports include value per token
- usage leaderboards have been replaced by ROI dashboards
- every automation must justify its cost
- you have discovered that value is harder to define than tokens
Typical practices
- value-per-token reporting
- outcome-based AI reviews
- ROI dashboards
- cost-quality comparisons
- replacing usage targets with business goals
