HAGMAXXING

A mutating internet term used both for embracing a witchlike, older or anti-beauty hag identity and for younger men intentionally dating older women.

THE FAKE TREND BECAME A REAL WORD.

The term currently points in two directions

Witchlike reclamation

A refusal of conventional femininity through a witchlike, anti-beauty identity.

Dating meme

Younger men dating older women, amplified by a fabricated media headline.

What is HAGMAXXING?

HAGMAXXING first circulated as a fantasy of becoming less decorative and more witchlike: living in the swamp, stirring potions and refusing conventional femininity. A later branch used the same term for younger men dating older women, amplified by a fake Vice-style headline that travelled as if it described a real trend. Reclamation, parody and misogyny now coexist inside the word.

ATTENTION / INTERPRETATION / PARTICIPATION

Adherents believe

  1. Conventional attractiveness is not the only available form of power.

  2. Getting older can be treated as an identity rather than a failure.

  3. A fake trend can become socially real through repetition.

  4. A reclaimed insult can still carry the prejudice it came from.

  5. The joke survives even when nobody agrees on the definition.

You may already be HAGMAXXING if…

  • becoming stranger sounds better than becoming more polished
  • you have described an older woman as a hag and then had to explain whether it was affectionate
  • you believed the fake headline before discovering there was no article
  • your dating preference has acquired an unnecessarily hostile meme name
  • you are more interested in the swamp branch than the dating branch

Typical practices

  • leaning into hag or witch aesthetics
  • rejecting polished femininity
  • reclaiming an age-coded insult
  • younger men pursuing older women
  • repeating or remixing the fake headline
